Remember that guy Popeye the sailor? Olive's CHaRISmaTic hubby who had a passion for justice and absolutely loved spinach?
I am sure that at least some of you will remember him and his comical quests, and for those of you who don't remember, what can I say - I guess I am officially getting old lol!
The interesting thing about Popeye is that his "super powers" came from eating spinach and saying to himself "I am that I am!"
But why is this important?
Firstly, Popeye serves as a great reminder for us all to eat nutrient dense foods that condition and complement our bodies and their functions! Spinach is a great example of a cheap, widely available and versatile food that assists not only our physical structure and internal organs, but due to its high bio-photon and Iron content which increases oxygen circulation in the blood, it also boosts our Spiritual or Etheric bodies conductivity too!

Let's have a quick look at some of the incredible benefits of eating spinach and then move on to look at the powerful words, "I am that I am".
Spinach is full of vitamins and minerals such as, vitamin K, vitamin A, Vitamin C, vitamin B2 and B6, vitamin E, Potassium, Calcium, Manganese, Folate, Nitric acid, Lutein, Magnesium, copper and Iron meaning that it:
- Builds and supports the immune system.
- Strengthens bones
- Improves vision (both physically and metaphysically speaking)
- Energizes helpful gut bacteria and limits destructive gut bacteria
- Decreases the risk of heart disease
- Is a powerful antioxidant
- Reduces blood pressure
- Supports weight loss by reducing sugar cravings
From this we can easily see how and why spinach is one of the keys to invoking Popeyes strength or "super powers", but what about his slogan, affirmation, or mantra "I am that I am"?
It seems as though the beloved character had been awakened to the true identity of God, the "I am" creative power and presence from above, beneath and beyond, the very essence that animates and vivifies all of life.
Even the courageous sailors name, "Pop-Eye" conjures up images of an Eye that has been popped open, just like the seat of intuition in our head that we refer to as the "singular", "all-seeing" or "minds eye".
The environment that Popeye lives in has obviously been dramatized for the sake of the show, but one can still draw parallels between his trials and the challenges that we face in todays society. Everywhere we turn we are bombarded by "bad guys" of all different shapes and forms; individuals or organizations that we don't innately trust for example, or cravings that lure us to eat, drink or smoke destructive substances, the list of these metaphorical "bad guys" goes on!
And like many of us today, Popeye seems to have discovered his ability through the "Word" of God to disarm "bad guys" of all kinds.
Our words, via thought and voice, are a physical reflection or counterpart of the omnipresent "Word" or "Seed" in all and through all. Therefore, our voices are a doorway for Spirit to enter and shape reality.
Realization of the nature of God through self, is the recognition of limitless power through unconditional Love. The true "I am" is the authentic essence that drives "rightness" and by aligning with the Truth in this way we allow the "Holy Spirit" to lead us and reveal our absolute potential. When Truth is our anchor, rudder and support Gods fortress of invincibility surrounds us body, mind and Spirit. In his book Thinking and Destiny, Harold W Percival puts it like this,
"I-ness is the undying, continuous, unchanging, self-same, self-conscious identity of the Triune Self. Nothing can approach I-ness that cannot stand in the clear Light, this is why the doer (conscious self) does not easily communicate with it and is often not conscious of what it is."
So, we see that by aligning with his authentic self and acting in Truth and "rightness", Popeye always triumphed over the "bad guys".
This is the Truth of who we really are; extensions of the Loving grace of God, the original "I am that I am" and as Carl Jung put it, "The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are."
Below are three different versions of the wonderful Scripture Exodus 14 verse14 which truly highlights how easy things are when we align ourselves to our true Godly nature:

"The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace."
(MSG)
"God will fight the battle for you.
And you? You keep your mouths shut!”
(TLB)
"The Lord will fight for you, and you won’t need to lift a finger!”
